Jenny’s art practice functions as a catalyst for reflection. She employs painting, drawing and writing as tools to filter, reframe, and appropriate the world around her. She was born in the tobacco country of southwestern Virginia and grew up traveling throughout the south. Her transitory lifestyle has made her interactions with people enlightening and meaningful. From these encounters bloom visceral universal narratives that critique and investigate everyday life. These narratives inspire her work. Coming from an illustration background she brings a unique perspective of narrative and communication through painting. The stories that drive her recent work are conceptually based and can often be ambiguous. This uncertainty of the narrative encourages viewers to ask questions that bring out simple but profound answers that are unique to the individual. Through the use of bold color palettes and sometimes satirical yet whimsical drawing style, she strives to open the door to the inner depths of the psyche, inviting the audience to perceive the world through a new set of eyes. Her paintings are vignettes of everyday life. It is the intersection of fantasy and reality where everyday objects and spaces are warped into symbols impregnated with metaphor. By building these spaces on the border of reality and fantasy she encourages the viewer to constantly question and embrace the subtle, daily absurdities and beauty of everyday life that are often overlooked.
