I have officially completed my month long painting residency at SVA. I was very impressed by the program and only have wonderful things to say about it and would encourage anyone thinking of applying to go for it!
At the beginning of the month I started my process by researching and examining geodes. These inorganic formations stood out to me because of the very specific and special process it takes to form, find and expose them as well as the individuality that they posses. In my past work I have used figures to bring out relatable feelings or experiences with the viewer but for these paintings the geoed replaces the figure in a more abstract and in many ways more potent painting. The geoed holds so much complexity and intrigue. The two paintings I completed this past month are the beginning of a series of images I will create on this topic.
